Joining BJP Lok Sabha MP from East Delhi Maheish Girri, who is on an indefinite hungerstrike outside chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence, the party’s Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy on Monday demanded that the Delhi government should be dismissed if Mr Kejriwal refuses to apologise to Mr Girri for his allegations linking him to the recent murder of NDMC legal adviser M.M. Khan.

Mr Swamy also attacked lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung for failing to protect Mr Girri from attack by his government and accused him of seeking guidance from Congress chief Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel. “The Delhi government will survive if Kejriwal apologises. The Delhi government should be dismissed in national interest,” he said.

Mr Swamy said Mr Kejriwal often uses the “shoot-and-scoot” tactic to attack his political rivals. “He should either show documents (to corroborate his charges against Mr Girri) or apologise,” he added.

Asked why had not sought Mr Jung’s removal, Mr Swamy said he had been busy with the issue of RBI governor Raghuram Rajan, but will now talk to the Modi government on the issue.

Joining the protest, BJP MP from North East Delhi Manoj Tiwari dared the chief minister to face Mr Girri and alleged that hurling baseless charges and going into hiding was an old habit of Mr Kejriwal. “Mr Girri reflects the pious forces in polity who are working to clean it and today his hungerstrike is inspired by his spiritual background, giving him strength to fight the evil forces like Mr Kejriwal,” added Mr Tiwari.

Senior BJP leaders Shyam Jaju, Kailash Vijayvargiya, Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Vijay Goel, Sidharthan, R.P. Singh and several state unit leaders, including office-bearers and municipal councillors, also joined Mr Girri at protest site.
