Students highlight past glory of Ganga
Hundreds of children from different schools in the national capital and from Nagpur in Maharashtra presented a colourful dance performance, including highlighting the past glory of the River Ganga.
Students of the Army Public School, Delhi Cantonment, made an attractive presentation showing the past glory of the River Ganga. Through their dance performance Nirmal Ganga, over 100 children of the Army School displayed how the pristine waters of the sacred river had been sacrificed on account of ignorance, greed and rampant industrialisation.
The students also highlighted that the youth of the country had pledged to rejuvenate the Ganga through relentless action and awareness campaigns so as to educate the masses about the threats to the River Ganga and need for its exigent revival.
The performance was aimed to put fourth the students’ determination and to convey to the people their commitment to restore the river’s past glory. The dance is an integral part of worship of the goddess on the occasion of Chaitra Purnima. The dance form derives its name from the masks worn by the performers portraying the roles of Narsingh (Vishnu’s half-human, half-lion avatar), Kal Bhairav and Betal (ghost). The students danced on the beats of traditional musical instruments like dhol.
