“I have killed her”, the jilted lover told the police after brutally stabbing a 21-year-old girl to death in north Delhi’s Burari area on Tuesday.

“I have killed her”, the jilted lover told the police after brutally stabbing a 21-year-old girl to death in north Delhi’s Burari area on Tuesday.

During the preliminary investigation, Surinder Singh told investigators that after stabbing Karuna, he made a call to the police. As he was seen in CCTV footage making a phone call, therefore, the police is verifying his claims with the help of his mobile call records.

During interrogation, Surinder said he had called Karuna to meet at GTB Metro station where they had a verbal spat as he had seen WhatsApp her display picture with another man. From Metro station, Karuna left to her school, but the accused waited for her in mid way near Labour Chowk in Burari.

“The accused again tried to contact the victim at Labour Chowk, but she refused to speaak to him, which infuriated him. He pulled out a scissors and dared to stab her. On this the victim challenged he would not be able summon courage to stab her. After the spat, he attacked her,” said a senior police official.

The body was cremated at Nigam Bodh Ghat under presence of heavy police force on Wednesday. Relatives and locals of Burari staged protest on Ring Road at Burari Chowk, demanding harsh punishment for the accused.

Meanwhile, DCW sent a notice to the Delhi police over Karuna’s murder by a stalker in broad daylight. The notice came after DCW chief Swati Maliwal met the deceased girl’s family who alleged that the victim had complained against the accused stalker in May and no action was taken against him.

“I met the mother and other family members of the girl. They have alleged that the girl had submitted a written complaint against the said accused to Burari Police Station in the first week of May,” the notice issued to JCP Sanjay Singh said.

“However, it is alleged that the police did not take any action against the culprit as the father of the man is retired Delhi Police officer and he used his clout to prevent any action against his son. This inaction, further emboldened the man to carry out the heinous act,” it added.
