Two sisters allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves from a ceiling fan with one dupatta at their house in Sector 23 Rohini, Outer Delhi, on Wednesday afternoon. .
The deceased have been identified as Seema Chaudhary (26) and Parul Chaudhary (20). Seema, a graduate of a Ghaziabad college, was a part-time teacher in a private school and her sister Parul had just completed her Class 12. Their parents had died three years ago.
Family members of the deceased said that the two sisters had breakfast before locking themselves in the room. Their elder brother, 32-year-old Aryan Ch-audhary, said till around 12.30 pm on Wednesday, everything seemed fine.
“We had breakfast together after that they (sisters) wanted to go to sleep. They then went to their separate rooms. After a while, I heard my sisters arguing with each other but did not pay heed. At 2.30 pm, when I knocked on their door to ask them if they wanted to have lunch, there was no reply. I called my wife and we banged on the door and shouted out their names, but they did not open the door. We immediately informed the police,” said Chaudhary.
The sisters had gone on a trip to Hardwar a few days ago and had returned home on Wednesday morning. After their parents died, the two sisters had shifted to their newly-married brother Aryan’s home. “A year later, Aryan had a child but their marriage broke up. Soon after, Aryan married a Nepali woman with whom he had another kid,” said the pol-ice, adding, “We did get to know that the second wife used to have regular fights with the two sisters. She would at times taunt them, saying that they had overstayed their welcome in her house and were a burden.”
“No abetment to suicide has been made out against anyone. A note was however found tucked in the inner garment of the body of one of the deceased. It was recovered during postmortem. The note is yet to be probed by the investigating officer of the case,” said a police official.
“We are yet to ascertain the actual reason for suicide,” said the police. “We are probing the incident from all angles and inquest proceedings are on. We are investigating the matter further and will soon find out the reason why the two sisters had committed such an act,” the DCP said.
