Sister-in-law accuses Amanatullah Khan of sexual harassment

A case of sexual harassment has been registered against AAP MLA and Delhi Waqf Board chairman Amanatullah Khan in southeast Delhi on a complaint by his sister-in-law on Saturday.

A case of sexual harassment has been registered against AAP MLA and Delhi Waqf Board chairman Amanatullah Khan in southeast Delhi on a complaint by his sister-in-law on Saturday.

The complainant, a thirty-two-year-old woman, approached Jamia Nagar police station alleging that Mr Khan had put pressure on her to get into a physical relationship with him, a senior police officer said. She is a resident of Shahin Bagh area near Jamia Nagar.

She also accused her husband of demanding dowry and putting pressure on her to get “physically intimate” with Khan, he added.

The police has booked both the MLA and his brother-in-law in connection with the case. The complainant alleged that Mr Khan used to force her to have sexual relations with him. She also alleged that she was frequently tortured by her in-laws for dowry.

The woman also alleged that her husband too forced her to have sexual relations with his brother-in-law Amanatullah. Following the compliant, the police has begun investigations into the allegations made by the woman.

The police has booked both Amanatullah and his brother-in-law in connection with the case.

“Mr Khan has been booked under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) Section 506 (criminal intimidation) Section 498 A (relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and criminal conspiracy,” said a senior police officer.

Mr Khan has however denied the allegations, saying that he had no connection with his sister-in-law.

The incident came to light barely few hours after Mr Khan sent a letter to Arvind Kejriwal expressing his wish to quit from the party.

The AAP had recently expelled former Delhi minister Sandeep Kumar from the party after a CD purportedly showing him in a “compromising” position with a woman went viral.

The woman has accused Kumar, who is currently in prison, of rape.

Mr Khan was made the chairman of Delhi Waqf Board in March. Recently Mr Khan was said to have been involved in an alleged recruitment scam in the Waqf Board where the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) has launched a “preliminary inquiry” against him.
