Security has been beefed up in crowded areas such as IGI Airport, malls, bus stops and railway stations, and patrolling doubled in the wake of the terror attack at the Army base in Uri, Kashmir.
“Security measures have been taken as per standard operating procedures (SOP). Joint patrolling by the Delhi police and CISF personnel are being carried out at Delhi airport. Security personnel have also been asked to be more cautious during checking and frisking of passengers,” said a senior Delhi police official. While the Delhi police is responsible for the outer most security ring at the airport, around 3,000 CISF personnel are responsible for its internal security.
An alert was sounded to ensure that all the security agencies are prepared for any eventuality on account of the Uri Army camp terror attack, said the official.
“The alert is very general in nature, but security measures have been enhanced,” the official added. Tight vigil is being maintained near key installations, including IGI Airport and Metro stations, and other important areas of the city, the police said.
Police patrolling has been strengthened near sensitive areas in and around the city and vehicles coming from and going towards Delhi are being thoroughly checked, the police said.
Meanwhile, the ministry of home affairs has issued a high alert across all airports in the country following the Sunday morning terror attack in Uri which has left 17 jawans dead. Fidayeen militants attacked the rear office of the infantry battalion force in north Kashmir’s Uri town at around 5 am on Sunday morning.
