The Delhi government on Wednesday passed a proposal that the principals of government-run schools can now hire retired officials as non-teaching staff and resource persons on a contractual basis.
The proposal was passed by the Delhi Cabinet in a bid to reduce the burden of additional duties on the teaching staff. With this, the government school principals have been empowered to set up appointment committees for hiring additional staff for non-teaching work.
Those who have retired from the Delhi government, Central or state governments or the armed forces from the posts of lower division clerk, upper division clerk, head clerks or office superintendent and are under the age of 65 years will be hired as “estate managers” and paid a consolidated sum of Rs 25,000 per month.
“Engaging teachers in non-teaching tasks is unfair to them as well as students. At present, there is a shortage of non-teaching staff and teachers are expected to perform tasks like maintaining records, bills, service books and communicating with other departments,” deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said.
