A 61-year-old retired pilot of Jet Airways allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself in East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar area after he had a fight with his wife and daughter on Saturday evening. No suicide note was recovered from the house, said the police.
The incident was reported around 4.30 pm when Anand Kumar (61) allegedly shot himself in the head at his house in the posh Mavila Apartments in Mayur Vihar with his licensed revolver. He had retired from Jet Airways around five-six years back and was suffering from depression, said DCP (East) Rishi Pal Singh.
“His body was found lying on the floor, while the revolver was found near his body,” said a police official.
“Anand was suffering from kidney problems and had sought voluntary retirement from his job around five-six years back. He had also undergone a kidney transplant, but was suffering from depression because of his health. His family has gone to Germany and had return on Friday morning,” the police said.
The deceased allegedly had an argument with his wife and daughter over a trivial issue which then escalated into a huge matter. He shot in the air and his wife and daughter, scared of the gunshot, rushed out of the house.
Later, they heard another gunshot and rushed back only to find Anand lying in a pool of blood. Her wife then made a PCR call and a police team reached the flat where the man was found dead. The body has been sent for a post-mortem.
“We will approach the family members after the last rites of the deceased have been performed to get more details about the circumstances that lead the man to take the extreme step. We will also go through the medial history of the deceased,” said a senior police official.
Anand is survived by his wife and two daughters. His elder daughter is married and lives in Germany.
