Realtor gunned down in front of his wife

A property dealer was shot dead by an unidentified man at his office in his house in front of his wife on the occasion of Karva Chauth in outer Delhi’s Aman Vihar area on Wednesday night.

A property dealer was shot dead by an unidentified man at his office in his house in front of his wife on the occasion of Karva Chauth in outer Delhi’s Aman Vihar area on Wednesday night.

The victim has been identified as Asharam, who was shifted to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Mangolpuri where the doctors had pronounced him dead on arrival. The locals have alleged that he was a BJP worker, but the police has denied his affiliation to the party.

The incident took place at 9:30 pm on Wednesday at Pravesh Nagar, Mubarakpur, in outer Delhi area. Asharam was affiliated with the BJP and is said to have been a BJP worker. He was also involved in the property dealing and building material business.

Asharam lived with his wife, Sunita, and their three children in a house adjacent to his office in Pravesh Nagar.

The victim was at his office for some work, while his wife was right outside their house and was waiting for him to finish work. Sunita reported that around 9:30 pm, she saw a man in his late 20s emerge from the street and make his way into her husband’s office. “I never grew suspicious as my husband was a social worker and was involved in party activities. Several people would meet him in his office on a daily basis. My children were sleeping inside the office. Suddenly, I heard two shots being fired from inside the office. Before I could make sense of what had happened, the assailant ran away,” she said.

Sunita rushed to the office and found her husband lying in a pool of blood. She started calling out for help after which the residents of the area gathered around the site. Some of them immediately took Asharam in his private car to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

“By the time we reached the hospital, he was dead. Some of the men kept saying that he was dead but we did not believe it until we entered the hospital and the doctors had pronounced him so,” said Ram Kishan, a resident.

The police was informed about the incident after which they rushed to the spot in thirty minutes and took stock of the situation. “A team was dispatched to the area. We collected an empty cartridge and have analysed the crime scene. The victim was hit in his chest which proved to be fatal. In our initial investigation, we have found that the deceased is not an office bearer of the Bharatiya Janata Party and may be involved in some local level activism,” said a senior police official.

Meanwhile, the family of the deceased has claimed that the murder may be a result of Asharam testifying in court in a murder case of a resident in Mubarakpur.

“A local, Ghanshyam, was murdered a year ago and my husband had testified in court,” said Sunita.
