Rape victim ends life, blames kin of accused
A 20-year-old rape victim committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her home in northeast Delhi’s Harsh Vihar on Monday morning.
A 20-year-old rape victim committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her home in northeast Delhi’s Harsh Vihar on Monday morning. The woman left a suicide note in which she had blamed the family of the accused, identified as Nain Singh, for putting pressure on her family for a compromise.
The victim’s body was spotted by one of her family members at around 6.30 am in her room in Harsh Vihar’s Pratap Nagar locality. Her family members told the police that she was depressed since the rape.
Deputy commissioner of police Ajit Kumar Singla the police will register a case of abetment of suicide. “We are in the process of registering a case under Section 306 of the IPC as preliminary inquiry reveals that the girl was under constant pressure,” said Mr Singla.
Sources said the woman was allegedly raped by a person in her neighbourhood in February. The ac-cused was arrested on her complaint, in which she had told the police that the accused had raped her by offering her drinks laced with sedatives.
