Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra, who was honoured with the Padma Shri on Tuesday morning by President Prabab Mukherjee, was felicitated by Rajya Sabha MP T. Subbarami Reddy at a private function. Ms Chopra, who flew down to the national capital to receive the highest civilian honour, dazzled in a golden beige attire and was presented a swarna kangan (gold bangle) by South Indian actor Mohan Babu and Mr Reddy’s daughter Pinki Reddy.
Felicitating Ms Chopra, Mr Reddy said, “Our girl has made us proud globally. Not only she has earned international acclaim with her work, she has become the first Indian lady star invited as a presenter for the Oscars. She has made a mark as TV star in America. Besides, Priyanka is a good human being. I am happy that people of Delhi have welcomed her whole heartedly.”
He then asked South Indian star Mohan Babu to felicitate her with the golden bangle along with Pinki Reddy. Ms Chopra was presented a bouquet by designer Ritu Beri.
Sounding overwhelmed at the gathering, the actress thanked everyone present on the occasion. “Thank you everyone for being here. It is a special day. It means a lot,” she said. Among those who shared the stage at Taj Mahal Hotel with the actress were British high commissioner Sir Dominic Asquith, actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha and fashion designer Ritu Beri. The high profile gathering was also attended by various other ambassadors, including US ambassador Richard Verma. Ms Beri, who presented the Quantico star with a bouquet, said, “Priyanka, you are the most beautiful woman in the world. We are honoured to have an intelligent beautiful woman who is making us proud. We all love you.”
The felicitation ceremony was also attended by politician Amar Singh, renowned designer Rohit Bal and actress Nafisa Ali.
