Eminent poets from all over the world will present the best in contemporary Urdu poetry at Mushaira Jashn-e-Bahar, the biggest such event in the national capital, scheduled to be held on Friday at Delhi Public School.

Mushaira Jashn-e-Bahar, now in its 18th year, is the biggest such event attended by approximately 5,000 lovers of Urdu poetry in the city every year and has been organised in several places across India.

The mushaira will see some scintillating poetry from a galaxy of poets from Pakistan, US, Canada, Dubai and India. The poets include Amjad Islam Amjad, Abbas Tabish, Rehana Roohi and Dr Pirzada Qasim from Pakistan, Farhat Shahzad from US, Zamin Jafri from Canada and Dr Zubair Farooq from Dubai. Eminent poet Mansoor Usmani will conduct the mushaira.

Promoting amity and friendship through poetry, the event brings together the finest Urdu poets from different parts of the globe. It sole purpose is to keep alive the tradition of a poetic dialogue between poets and their audience and also to contribute to the efforts of taking Urdu to a wider cross-section through filming and audio-visual documentation of the event.

Headed by Kamna Prasad, the non-profit Jashn-e-Bahar Trust is dedicated to serving the cause of Urdu. The trust constantly involves itself in activities related to nurturing the rich, syncretic traditions of Urdu and works towards developing friendship and amity among the people of the Subcontinent.

“At Jashn-e-Bahar, we believe that creativity, especially poetry, knows no bounds and has the capability to building bridges beyond borders. Our poets represent this cross-cultural worldview, the universal concerns of modern times and the ever expanding global appeal of Urdu verse,” Ms Prasad said.
