In order to catch tax evaders, several states such as Haryana and Jharkhand and the Central Board of Excise and Customs are studying the effectiveness of the AAP government’s innovative Bill Banvao, Inaam Pao scheme, in which about 50,000 people have participated so far in the national capital.

The department has recovered more than Rs 1.5 crore from such tax evaders so far and have also initiated prosecution of dealers found manipulating records.

Over 10,000 bills were received by the government in April and 78 people were chosen for an award under the scheme. Four winners will receive the maximum prize money of Rs 50,000, the remaining winners will get an amount five times their purchase value.

Launched in January, around 50,000 people have participated in the scheme so far by downloading the “DVATBILL” app and uploading the bills of their purchase. The app is available for both Android and Apple smartphones and has been developed in-house by the department of trade and taxes. Participate can join by downloading the “DVATBILL” app and uploading the bills of their purchase through the app. One per cent of the entries are selected for prize through a computerised draw of lots. Winners get prize equal to five times the amount of bill upto a maximum of Rs 50,000.
