Rail authorities in the national capital opened the Old Yamuna Bridge for rail traffic on Monday after keeping it closed for two days. The bridge had been closed due to the rising water levels in the Yamuna. According a senior Northern Railway official, the rail traffic that was suspended temporarily on Old Yamuna Bridge due to the rising level of the Yamuna, has been opened on Monday.
“All the trains of this section will now run on their scheduled route,” said the senior Northern Railway official. However, he said, “keeping in view the safety aspects, speed restriction of 10 kmph on both lines has been imposed on train movement.”
The closure of the Old Yamuna Bridge had affected the services of more than 100 trains since August 13 evening. Many trains were diverted to other routes and some were cancelled.
The Old Yamuna Bridge (Loha Pul) was closed as a precautionary measure, leading to the cancellation of several trains.
“The rail traffic on Old Yamuna Bridge was temporarily suspended since around 6.30 pm on August 13 due to rising of water level in the Yamuna,” he added.
