To give a boost to the promotion of entrepreneurship and creation of jobs on a large scale in the national capital, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced the formation of the entrepreneurship council. The CM said that the council consists of mainly the members from industries and businesses and it will work under the aegis of the Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi (DDC).

The AAP chief said that the council will serve as an advisory body to the Delhi government on how to create the best environment leading to job creation in all sectors.

“The council will give recommendations pertaining to creation of most suitable policy framework for all micro-entrepreneurs, small and medium scale enterprises, new-age startups as well as large businesses,” he said.

The approach will be first to get feedback from existing business and entrepreneurs in Delhi through face-to- face meetings, field visits and focused group discussions to understand what must be done to improve business environment in Delhi, he said. There is also a feedback process which will be conducted in two phases — need assessment phase and capacity building phase to improve the business environment.

“The council’s focus will be on early delivery and would suggest ideas that can be implemented quickly; however in parallel, the council will also recommend infrastructure and policy initiatives so that Delhi can be the choice for the entrepreneurs,” he said.

The council comprises largely of the first generation entrepreneurs who are primarily from Delhi and had first-hand experience of challenges in setting up and scaling up business in Delhi. It comprises big names including Sanjeev Bikhchandani (founder & vice-chairman of Naukri.com) as the chairperson. Delhi industries minister Satyendar Jain will be the patron of the council. The council is likely to submit its recommendations in three-months time.
