A 57-year-old lawyer was shot dead by two unidentified assailants in full public view in southeast Delhi’s Jamia Nagar area on Monday evening. The deceased has been identified as M.M. Khan, an assistant legal adviser with the NDMC since last five years.
A case of murder has been registered in connection with the incident, which the police suspects to be the fallout of personal rivalry, a senior police officer said.
The incident took place around 7.45 pm when Khan was heading home in his Swift Dzire car which was intercepted by a motorcycle on a busy street in Jamia Nagar. The assailants on the motorcycle were wearing helmets and shot at Khan at point blank range. Khan sustained a bullet injury in his chest and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died.
The lawyer’s relatives told the police that he had been receiving calls from unknown people during odd hours of the day. The police has recovered his mobile phone and its data will be analysed, the officer said.
His body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Khan is survived by his wife, Nishad, and three daughters.
