Wife of sacked Delhi minister Sandeep Kumar, who was arrested on rape charges, on Sunday came out in support of her husband, claiming that he was “falsely implicated” in the scandal.

“My husband is innocent. He is a victim of some deep-rooted conspiracy. The matter is under investigation and in court. The truth will come out soon,” Sandeep Kumar’s wife told mediapersons after meeting her husband at the Sultanpuri police station.

Asked if she was aware of “objectionable CD,” Mr Kumar’s wife refused to comment on it. She also maintained silence on Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP’s) move to sack Mr Kumar from the party. She said, “I am with my husband. My family members are also in his support. We will fight this battle till we get justice.”

An investigating officer said Mr Kumar has not been cooperating them in their probe and is misleading them by frequently changing his statements. When the investigators asked him about the women seen in the “objectionable video,” Mr Kumar first admitted that he knew them but later took a U-turn and claimed they were not known to him, said the police.

The police asked Mr Kumar about the person who could have leaked the video. He accused his friend named Praveen for leaking the video. “We will verify his claims by confronting him with the friend. But before that, we need to know who this Praveen is,” the officer said.

On Sunday morning, Mr Kumar was taken to Sultanpuri’s F-block home where the alleged “sex video” was purportedly filmed. Sources said the police searched the entire house to recover electronic equipment that were used to film the objectionable act. However, the police could not recover any electronic item. The police is now interrogating Kumar to recover the items.

Mr Kumar was on Sunday remanded in one day police remand.

The woman had on Saturday lodged a rape case against Kumar after a CD in which he and the victim were shown in compromising positing surfaced.

Kumar was produced before duty metropolitan magistrate on Sunday evening. The police had demanded 14 days police custody of Kumar. However, the court after hearing the submission of the police, granted them only one day police custody.

On Monday, he will be again produced before the Rohini court. Police sources said that they will demand extension of the custody.

The Delhi police has booked Kumar under rape charges (Section 376) with sections of Information Technology Act. According to the police, the woman claimed that she had gone to visit the former minister for an issue related to her ration card.

But Kumar gave her a “cold drink laced with sedative” after which she lost consciousness.
