The daughter-in-law of Bahujan Samaj Party Rajya Sabha MP Narendra Kashyap allegedly shot herself with the MP’s licensed pistol at their residence in Sanjay Nagar, Ghaziabad, on Wednesday.

The daughter-in-law of Bahujan Samaj Party Rajya Sabha MP Narendra Kashyap allegedly shot herself with the MP’s licensed pistol at their residence in Sanjay Nagar, Ghaziabad, on Wednesday.

The family of the deceased, Himanshi Kashyap (29), alleged that their daughter was killed for dowry and filed a dowry compliant against the MP and his family members, including his wife and son. However, her in-laws told the police that the deceased had committed suicide.

Himanshi, daughter of BSP leader and former Uttar Pradesh minister Hiralal Kashyap, was married to Rajya Sabha MP Narendra Kashyap’s son Sagar in 2013 and the couple has a son. Sagar is a doctor by profession.

The police said that it got information from Yashoda Hospital here about the incident about an injured woman who had been taken there by her family members for treatment.

“When a police team reached the hospital, she had already been declared dead. When we questioned family members, they claimed that the victim had shot herself,” said Ghaziabad superintendent of police (city) Salman Taj Patil said.

The police added that at the time of the incident six persons — the MP and his wife as well as four relatives — were present in the house.

According to the police, the family members claimed they all were on ground floor while Himanshi was on first floor.

Around 11 am, a relative, Sachin, was asked to inquire about her. When she didn’t open the bathroom door, another relative, Monu, went up to check if there was something amiss. The family told the police that Monu kicked the bathroom door, which had a latch. Once the door was opened, they saw the victim lying in a pool of blood. There was a gunshot injury on her temple, said the police. She was immediately taken to Yashoda Hospital by the family.

In their statement to the police, the accused family claimed that Sagar had left the house around 7.30 am and the police is now verifying the information.

Later, Himanshi’s uncle Hari Om Kashyap submitted a written complaint at the Kavi Nagar police station.
