A 17-year-old girl was found hanging from the ceiling fan at her employer’s home where she was working as a domestic help in South Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area on Wednesday afternoon.
The employer, Rupali Bisht, is a housewife and her husband, Sandeepan Bisht, works as a software engineer in Aurangabad. They have a 10-year-old daughter.
According to police, the deceased, Suchitra, was from 24 Parganas in West Bengal and was staying as a live-in help at her employer’s house since the last six months. The deceased’s mother alleged that her daughter knew of the illicit relationship the housewife had with another man who used to visit their house quite often. She concluded that her daughter did not commit suicide but was murdered.
Police said, it was the birthday of the employer’s daughter on Wednesday for which they had gone to the nearby mall to eat lunch.
“After finishing lunch, when they came back and rang the bell, no one opened the door. They repeatedly knocked at the door but there was no answer. The housewife called her neighbours who came and also tried opening the door, but failed. A contractor from a nearby construction site was called and the door had to be broken to enter the house,” said the official.
Upon entering the house, the girl was found hanging by her own ‘chunni’ from the ceiling fan.
