Residents of the national capital can help fight air pollution by reporting incidences of leaf and garbage burning, and dust generated by construction activities with the launch of a new mobile application.
The “Hawa Badlo App”, introduced by the Supreme Court-appointed Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) to improve the air quality in Delhi and NCR, allows people to report incidence of air pollution through it.
“The app aims at inclusive participation of citizens in reporting incidence of leaf and garbage burning, building and construction dust, and unpaved road dust, thereby making them part of the city’s fight to curb toxic air pollution,” Bhure Lal, chairperson of EPCA said. The mobile application designed by the EPCA along with the concerned municipal corporations and departments of Delhi, Haryana, and UP governments also includes a section for officials to resolve cases and upload evidence, including a copy of the challan, about the action taken.
The app, at present, focuses on incidence of pollution through construction activities, garbage burning and maintenance of roads, but has the scope to include other pollution-linked violations.
The application will generate weekly reports on the status of the cases and action taken, which will be sent to the officials of the Central and state pollution control boards and municipalities. Also, the EPCA will analyse this information to submit its report to the SC on actions taken in compliance with its orders.
