The body of an eight-year-old girl, who was missing since Tuesday evening, was found in a drain near her house in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area on Thursday. Locals staged a protest over the murder of the girl outside the police station.
The police said that prima facie it is a case of sexual assault and is waiting for medical reports for further confirmation. The girl’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
“The girl was missing since Tuesday evening and a missing complaint was lodged by her parents. A thorough search was conducted in the area following which a case under Section 363 of IPC was registered,” DCP (west) Pushpendra Kumar said.
The girl’s body was spotted on Thursday morning in the drain around 500 metres from the slum cluster where her family lives. During investigation, a neighbour revealed that he had spotted the girl with a youth in the area. On this, the police detained the youth. The youth, identified as Pradeep Kumar, confessed killing the girl after sexually assaulting her. He strangled her and dumped her body in the drain.
