In a major relief to a large number of city administration officials, the Centre has approved a proposal of the Delhi government to revise the pay scales of Delhi Administration Subordinate Service (DASS).

Principal secretary (services, Delhi government) Anindo Majumdar on Monday said the ministry of home affairs approved the proposal of the Delhi government to revise the pay scales of Delhi Administration Subordinate Service (DASS). “Both the DASS and Steno cadre will be benefited by this decision.”

Mr Majumdar appraised that as per the decision, the pay scale of DASS Grade-II and Steno Grade-II has been revised from Rs 5,000-Rs 8,000 to Rs 5,500-Rs 9,000. “The decision will be effective notionally from January 1, 1996 and actually from December 1, 2006,” he said.

The Central government has also approved the grant of non-functional scale of Rs 8,000-Rs 13,500 to DASS Grade-I and senior PA notionally from January 1, 1996 and actually from December 1, 2006.

The secretary also said that the DASS and steno cadre form the backbone of the Delhi government. The decision has met long pending demand of this cadre. “The decision will also help in removing the stagnation of the members of the service and will also boost the morale of DASS/Steno Cadre,” Mr Majumdar added.

The Delhi Congress, however, criticised the move to restructure the pay scales of DASS employees, terming the decision by the NDA-led Central government as a poll gimmick. DPCC chief Arvinder Singh Lovely alleged that the BJP government increased the pay scale keeping in view the forthcoming Assembly polls in the city.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also echoed similar views. “The decision of revising the salaries of the DASS employees is a calculative move by the Modi government looking at the coming Assembly polls. The voters are smart enough to understand these political moves so it wont help the BJP,” an AAP leader said.
