Doctors at the AIIMS have removed an iron rod, which had pierced into the body of a 30-year-old man after he had fell from the fourth floor of an under-construction building in Southeast Delhi.

Sources at the AIIMS said that the incident took in Taimur Nagar of Southeast Delhi on early Saturday morning around 3 am when the man fell from the fourth floor on the iron rods placed on the second floor of the building..

“An iron rod pierced into the part of the body, between arms and chest, and came out from the other side of his body after breaking the shoulder blades. He was lucky as none of his main arteries got affected, perhaps that was the reason why he remained alive,” AIIMS spokesperson Amit Gupta said.

“The rod has been taken out and the patient’s condition is stable now,” he said.

The patient is said to be mentally unstable.

A security guard found the injured man around 7 am when he went to the second floor of the building for some work. He also made a call to the police and CATS ambulance service. “As the man fell on the rod, he stayed pinned down in the same position till the morning. After the guard discovered him, he called the police that took help of CATS ambulance and brought him to the AIIMS trauma centre at around 9 am,” added Dr Gupta.

On arrival, the man was operated upon and the rod was taken out.

“When he was brought to the hospital, he was hemodynamically stable and was immediately shifted to operation theatre and within half an hour of arrival to hospital the rod was taken out from the axilla. His condition is stable,” added Dr Gupta.
