In a shocking incident, a man allegedly stabbed his 18-year-old daughter over a trivial issue at their house in Southwest Delhi’s Palam area on Wednesday.

The police said the girl was allegedly attacked by her father with a kitchen knife as he was angry with her for returning home late.

The incident took place at around 8 pm when Parul (name changed) went to her aunt’s house. Her father, Bhawani Shankar, who does petty jobs and spends most of his income on liquor, allegedly scolded her for returning home late. In a state of anger, he took the kitchen knife and stabbed his daughter while his wife was away at work.

Sources said that on Thursday, she somehow managed to leave her home in Raj Nagar area of Palam, boarded the metro and reached her maternal grandmother’s house in Patel Nagar area of Central Delhi where she narrated the incident to the elderly woman. She had received injuries on her back and neck. The elderly woman took Parul to AIIMS Trauma Center for treatment the next day, where in turn the hospital authorities informed the police.

The police said that Parul reportedly had shared with them that after being stabbed by her father, she was not allowed to step outside the house. Since her father was an alcoholic and her mother stayed away at work for long hours, she did not get the time to share the incident with her mother, who works at a private company. She somehow managed to escape. Based on her statement as well as her medical examination, her father was booked and later on arrested.

Meanwhile, a senior police official of the Southwest district said that they have registered a case under Sections 323 (volunatarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC at the Palam police station against the accused Bhawani Shankar.
