A 25-year-old businessman was shot dead by unidentified assailants in North Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar on Tuesday night.
The deceased, identified as Amit Kumar, was a native of Jhajjar in Haryana. He was running a business in partnership with his brother-in-law and also stayed with him, the police said.
“On Tuesday night when Amit was walking towards home from his office, he was intercepted by motorcycle-borne assailants near Indira Colony in Mukherjee Nagar. The pillion rider shot six rounds on Amit and one of the bullets pierced through his chest. He collapsed on the spot and assailants fled from the spot,” said a senior police official.
An eyewitness told the police that indiscriminate firing by assailants caused a panic in the area. A local informed the police about the incident. The police took Amit to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. “The family members were informed about the incident and they reached the hospital. Family members said that the victim was relocated to the city from Jhajjar district in Haryana around 18 months ago due to some family dispute. He was staying with his sister and brother-in-law,” said a senior police official.
During preliminary investigation, the police found that the deceased relocated to Delhi after sensing a threat to his life because his cousin brother was also killed two year ago in a family dispute.
“We have got vital information in the case. A police team has been sent to Haryana for investigation,” said DCP (northwest) Vijay Singh.
