The Delhi police claimed to have arrested five persons in connection with abduction and extortion case in which the victim was lured into trap by being offered a job of an escort through an advertisement published in a national daily.
The accused enticed the victim through a newspaper advertisement, offering him '25,000 to meet prospective international female clients at a hotel in Hapur. Once the victim called them on the numbers mentioned in the advertisement, they asked him to forward his pictures via email. When the victim reached there, the accused, identified as Anil Kumar Yadav, Naim, Bhim, Mangli, and Mohd Fakira, kidnapped him.
The police said that to avoid getting caught, they made ransom calls thro-ugh the victim’s mobile number. Reportedly, on October 6, Sohail’s mother complained the local police that her son, who works as a salesman in a mobile repairing shop in Palika Bazaar, went to Hapur in Uttar Pradesh to borrow money from an acquaintance. Based on this, the police started an investigation.
“Through manual and technical surveillance, we traced the victim. During the course of investigation, a ransom call of '10 lakh was made to the victim’s family to release him. The call was put on surveillance and the team tracked the location of the kidnappers and arrested five kidnappers from Mohamadpur in Palwara district in Hapur and rescued the victim, Sohail, safely from their possession,” said a senior police official.
The official further said, “During sustained interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in the said incident. They further stated that they used to lure their targets by taking out floating advertisements in newspapers offering Rs 25,000 per day for escorting Indian or foreign female clients.”
