Man killed in road rage attack

In yet another case of road rage, a 55-year-old man was killed and seven of his family members were injured in Outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri area on Sunday night.

In yet another case of road rage, a 55-year-old man was killed and seven of his family members were injured in Outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri area on Sunday night. The deceased has been identified as Jhansaram, a contractor of house painters, who lived with his wife, three sons and their families in E-Block, Mangolpuri.

The police has arrested four of the eight assailants, including women, who are members of a family. They had attacked the victim and his family with swords and batons. The police is hunting for the rest of the accused.

The dispute between the two families was triggered by an incident of road rage as Jhansaram drove his motorcycle back home from work Sunday evening. When Jhansaram entered a lane in his neighbourhood, he noticed some men standing in the middle of the road leaving him no space for his motorcycle to pass.

Persistent honking by Jhansaram, in a bid to get the road cleared, led to an argument between him and the group of men. As the argument threatened to take a violent turn, locals intervened to settle the matter. However, before dispersing the group threatened to teach Jhansaram a lesson.

“An hour after this incident, around seven to eight persons arrived at Jhansaram’s home and attacked him and his family with swords and sticks. The assailants also included two women who are still on the run,” said Om Prakash, a relative of the deceased.

Prakash alleged that the assailants struck such fear in the neighbours that no one dared to intervene as they went about mercilessly attacking the family.

The assailants fled only when Jhansaram collapsed, allegedly because of the beating he had received. The seven injured persons include Jhansaram’s wife, three sons, two daughters-in-law and a nephew.

The eight were rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital where Jhansaram succumbed to the head injuries, caused by blunt objects, during treatment on Monday. The others continued to undergo treatment on Tuesday.

The incident led to the victim’s relatives, neighbours and friends gathering outside the Mangolpuri police station on Tuesday and staging a protest. Alleging police inaction against the absconding suspects, they dispersed after senior officers convinced them to do so.
