Man gets 10-year jail for opium possession
A Delhi court has awarded 10 years’ jail term to a man and also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on him for possessing 15 kg of opium.
A Delhi court has awarded 10 years’ jail term to a man and also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on him for possessing 15 kg of opium.
The court noted that the prosecution had proved its case against accused Vardhi Chand beyond reasonable doubt.
“Keeping in view the commercial quantity of opium recovered from his possession and the impact of intoxicating drugs on our youth and also the minimum sentence provided by the legislature, convict Vardhi Chand is hereby sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 10 years and to pay a fine of '1 lakh,” special NDPS judge Narinder Kumar said.
