A 22-year-old interior decorator was found hanging fr-om a tree at a residential colony in Outer Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy area early on Monday. Even though the police prima facie suspects it to be a case of suicide, his family members have alle-ged foul play. Hundreds of locals staged a protest outs-ide the police station, alleging the man was murdered.
According to the police, the deceased, identified as Sudhir, lived with his parents in the locality. The po-lice found no suicide note from his possession. “Prima facie it seems to be a case of suicide. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination and the report is awaited. Mea-nwhile, an inquest has be-en initiated into the matt-er,” said a senior police officer.
The incident was reported around 3 am, when some locals noticed the body and called up the police control room. The rope was cut and Sudhir’s body was brought down, after which he was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead. The incident triggered a violent protest in the area within a few hours and scores of protesters allegedly damaged a DTC low-floor AC bus.
