In a suspected case of road rage, a 30-year-old man was allegedly beaten up by a few drunk men who robbed him of valuables near a police station in East Delhi.
Rupesh Gaur was returning home after attending a function at Hallmark Ban-quet Hall in Karkardooma on October 10 around 10.30 pm when a car brushed past his car and then overtook his car near Hargobind Enclave in East Delhi, the police said.
One of the occupants of the car allegedly abused Rupesh who moved ahead without paying heed to the car owner. When Rupesh reached near the Anand Vihar police station, the car that had been following him hit his car a few times and when Rupesh stepped out to see the damage caused to his car, he found that occupants of the car were consuming alcohol, the police said.
In his complaint, Rupesh alleged that he was beaten with the end of a revolver and they even snatched his gold chain and '8,600 that he was carrying.
Rupesh said that they were asking his younger brother, Om Shanker Gaur, to step out of the car, but he didn’t give in and they fled after breaking Rupesh’s mobile phone so that he won’t be able to contact the police, said a senior police officer.
“After Rupesh approached the police, a case under Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 394 (Voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 397 (Robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 427 (Mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), and other relevant sections of the IPC has been registered,” said the officer.
The police has the number of the car that hit Rupesh’s vehicle and has launched a manhunt for the occupants of the car.
