The police has arrested a 24-year-old post-graduate student of Amity University for hiring a contract killer for Rs 8 lakh for his wife’s murder. The contract killer too has been arrested. His wife allegedly wanted him to separate from his joint family and this led to discord between the couple.

The accused, identified as Lalit Dahiya, had hired Sahil and provided him a pistol to kill his wife Monika. Dahiya had planned the incident in such a way that it would appear to be a case of murder for robbery.

On April 20, Dahiya along with his wife and five-month-old daughter were going somewhere in their car. At Chawla, Dahiya parked the car in an isolated place allegedly to urinate.

He then called the contract killer and told him that his wife and daughter were sitting in the car. Sahil reached the spot and shot at Monika. At the time of the incident, the couple’s five-month-old daughter was on Monika’s lap.

As per the plan, when Dahiya returned to the car he made a call to the PCR about the incident. Monika was rushed to the nearest hospital, but was declared dead. On interrogation, Dahiya confessed his involvement in the crime and helped the cops to arrest the contract killer.

According to the police, Dahiya was depressed with his wife’s behaviour. Monika’s father was a retired sub-inspector of the Delhi police.
