A father, who was grievously injured by another parent after a fight between their children during a gully cricket match in Pandav Nagar, east Delhi, succumbed to his injuries in a hospital on Thursday.

Autorickshaw driver Azhar Ali, alias Pappu (44), was grievously injured when he was attacked by the accused, Kallu, and his family members on May 30.

He died during treatment at a private hospital.

The police said Kallu and his brother Munna have been arrested. An FIR was registered under Section 307 (attempt to murder) at the Pandav Nagar police station after Pappu was attacked and it has now been converted into murder case after his death.

Pappu’s 14-year-old son Naeem and Kallu’s son Jumman were involved in a fight along with other children while playing cricket at Sanjay Jheel Park in Pandav Nagar on the morning of May 30.

The incident took a serious turn as their family members joined in the fight and Kallu allegedly threatened Pappu of dire consequences.

Later in the evening, Ka-llu and his brothers, Mun-na and Suleman, allegedly carrying knives and iron rods reached Pappu’s residence at Jawahar Muhalla in Shashi Garden and challenged him to come out.

Pappu, who was having dinner, went out and was allegedly attacked with a knife by Kallu, sustaining injuries on his head and abdomen, his uncle Mujid said in police complaint.

When Pappu’s family members tried to save him, the attackers allegedly charged on them too and left them with injuries. Mujid, Pappu’s son Naeem and his nephew Sabloo were injured in the attack by Kallu and his brothers, who fled later.

All the injured were rushed to L.B.S. Hospital by the police and Pappu was later shifted to Max Hospital after his condition deteriorated. He died of his injuries around 3 am on Thursday, the police said.
