Make serious efforts to curb pollution: BJP

The Delhi BJP on Sunday said that the AAP government should stop playing blame game politics on pollution control measures and make serious efforts to control the rising pollution levels in the city.

The Delhi BJP on Sunday said that the AAP government should stop playing blame game politics on pollution control measures and make serious efforts to control the rising pollution levels in the city. Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay said the BJP has always maintained that dust pollution was a major cause of PM10 rise, but the Kejriwal government instead of working on reducing dust pollution has chosen an easy path of putting the onus of the pollution growth on the vehicular pollution.

Citing IIT-Kanpur report that had initially revealed dust pollution is responsible for high prevalence of PM10 in the national capital, Mr Upadhyay said with the passage of time what the BJP has been constantly saying, has got official recognition as the odd-even vehicle plying system has failed to control pollution.

“Latest Delhi Pollution Control Committee report has substantiated what wide section of society and BJP leadership have been saying that the odd-even has failed to curb pollution. The DPCC report says that pollution in border areas around Delhi has gone down, but in the city areas including Lutyens’ Delhi, AIIMS, Connaught Place, Karol Bagh, Sadar Bazar, Lajpat Nagar, West Delhi and Shahdara areas has gone up during last seven days, indicating proper reasons for pollution rise,” added Mr Upadhyay.

Reacting to the Kejriwal government blaming threat of auto and taxi strike and Ola and Uber fare formula for non-cooperation, the Delhi BJP president said that the cab services are commercially oriented and would try to earn moment they can, as they offer heavy discounts in lean period. Moreover, one fails to understand that how can a government offering uncontrolled tariff for corporate premium bus service object to similar tactics of cab operators.

”The Kejriwal government instead of blaming political Opposition, auto and cab services, open schools, weather and other factors for the failure of the odd-even scheme, should accept that dust pollution is bigger cause of overall pollution and should concentrate on controlling it,” he added.

Mr Upadhyay claimed that since April 15 itself it became apparent that people of Delhi are not prepared to accept the odd-even scheme.
