The Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday attacked lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung and wrote to him demanding that he and anti-corruption branch chief M.K. Meena must be made “co-accused” in four cases pertaining to alleged scams during the Dikshit government, including one that is related to prices of natural gas from the KG Basin.
Twelve AAP legislators on Wednesday morning went to meet Mr Jung with their demands. They later claimed that Mr Jung “refused” to meet them, but the L-G Secretariat said Mr Jung’s schedule was already prepared for the day and procedures have to be followed for seeking an appointment.
The development came after Mr Meena said that chief minister Arvind Kejriwal may also be quizzed apart from Mrs Sheila Dikshit in the '400-crore DJB tanker scam after an FIR was lodged, leaving the AAP and Mr Kejriwal bristling with anger.
Accusing Mr Jung of protecting the alleged culprits, AAP MLA Somnath Bharti said the AAP has also approached Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, demanding that the cases be forwarded to the House Committee on petitions, which he said has the power to summon “even the L-G.”
“You (the lieutenant-governor) have been protecting Mrs Dikshit in these four FIRs through your inaction. Mr Meena, imposed by the Union government as the ACB chief, has also colluded with you in this criminal activity. Kindly forward my letter to the ACB with a direction that Mr Meena and yourself should be made co-accused in these four FIRs,” a letter signed by AAP MLA Rajendra Pal Gautam said.
An official in the L-G Secretariat received the letter.
Mr Bharti claimed that the MLAs were frisked “like a terrorist” at the Raj Nivas and were not given an appointment to meet Mr Jung though he was present in the Raj Nivas premises.
“He seems to have chosen lunch over meeting despite being there. What are his compulsions What relations does he have with Mukhesh Ambani’s business house ” Mr Bharti questioned.
