BJP Lok Sabha member from East Delhi Maheish Girri, who was on an indefinite hungerstrike outside chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence since Sunday evening, ended his indefinite fast after Union

BJP Lok Sabha member from East Delhi Maheish Girri, who was on an indefinite hungerstrike outside chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence since Sunday evening, ended his indefinite fast after Union home minister Rajnath Singh persuaded him not to put his life at stake.

The Union home minister on Tuesday evening reached Mr Girri’s protest venue at Civil Lines in North Delhi and assured the BJP MP that the police in its investigation has not found anything against him and hence he should not be disturbed by allegations levelled due to political malice.

“Everywhere in the society people are praising the moral courage and the work of Mr Girri. It is necessary that Mr Girri should disregard the allegations levelled due to political ma-lice and concentrate on hu-man service,” said Mr Singh.

The Union home minister and Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay offered water to Mr Girri and he ended his three-day hungerstrike.

Earlier addressing BJP activists at the protest venue, Mr Upadhyay said, “We should thank Mr Girri for his fight against the chief minister,

Mr Kejriwal, who has become a symbol of falsehood and forgery. The workers of the Delhi BJP are with Mr Girri and this hungerstrike of Mr Girri will be the beginning of the end of empire of falsehood of Mr Kejriwal.”

Reacting to Mr Kejriwal’s accusation that an FIR in the tanker scam against him was registered at the behest of PM Narendra Modi, Mr Upadhyay said Mr Kejriwal should stop his chant of “Modi-Modi” and be ready for jail yatra.

Amid reports of Mr Gir-ri’s deteriorating health condition, Union minister Harsh Vardhan, MPs Prav-esh Verma and Vijay Goel, former MLAs, councillors and leaders met the East Delhi MP on Tuesday mor-ning. Dr Harsh Vardhan said Delhi is passing thro-ugh a phase of anarchy and if this does not end soon then there will be a constitutional crisis in the state.

Mr Girri, however, performed yoga to mark the International Yoga Day at the protest site along with his supporters in the morning.

Mr Girri was protesting outside Mr Kejriwal’s residence since Sunday after the latter declined to join an open debate over his accusation that the BJP MP was involved in the murder of NDMC legal adviser M.M. Khan.
