According to a senior police official, Gaurav Suneja, a practising lawyer, was entering the courts complex through Gate No. 5, which is for the entry of general public, on Wednesday morning. He wearing casuals and was stopped at the security check after a blade was found in his pocket.
“Lawyers get entry to the court premises from Gate No. 4. A security person posted at the security check stopped Mr Suneja after they found a blade in his pocket. He was stopped from entering the court premises. When Mr Suneja claimed he was a lawyer, security officials did not agree to his claim and refused him entry,” said the police official.
This angered the lawyer, who made calls to other lawyers. “Within a short span of time, a group of lawyers reached the spot and started abusing the security personnel. They got into a quarrel with the security personnel. The lawyers attacked policemen and created chaos at the spot,” said the police official.
Even security officials retaliated to the attack and both parties were involved in a scuffle and fisticuffs. More police officials, including the Prashant Vihar SHO and ACP, reached the spot to control the situation.
“The lawyers were unstoppable. The scuffle was finally stopped with the intervention of more police personnel and Mr Suneja was taken for verification where it was found out that he was a lawyer. Some people were also taken to the hospital with very minor injuries,” said the official.
Meanwhile, Rajiv Tehlan, honorary secretary of the Rohini Court Bar Association, said the lawyers have called for a complete strike on Thursday against the brutal attack on the advocates by police personnel at the court and are also demanding immediate registration of an FIR against erring police personnel.
