Law classes suspended in Delhi University after protest

Delhi University’s Campus of Law Centre witnessed protest by students on Friday, forcing the authorities to suspend the classes for all the three centres till Monday.

The students have been sitting on a hungerstrike as a part of the protest since Thursday against the issue of mass failure in semester examinations.

Delhi University Students Union (Dusu) president Amit Tanwar had allegedly locked the newly-appointed Law Faculty dean Ved Kumari inside her office while breaking a window next to it after she refused to speak to the vice-chancellor regarding the demands raised by the students.

Mr Tanwar, however, denied the allegations.

The students even burnt an effigy of the dean in the courtyard of the law centre and allegedly smashed the administration office.

“Without any specific reason the ongoing classes of first year students were cancelled. Even the dean did not mention any reason in the notification. Already due to delayed admissions our semester got delayed and now our studies are being affected,” said a first year student, Abhinav Arora.

Meanwhile, the authorities maintained that they had informed the police about the incident, but according to police officials, no case has been registered.
