Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has ordered a probe against anti-corruption branch chief M.K Meena, who was appointed to the post by lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung, for allegedly intimidating his juniors in office.

The order to launch an investigation was issued after Mr Meena warned Mr Kejriwal of legal action if a memorandum issued to him earlier for allegedly intimidating his juniors was not withdrawn. “There are grounds for inquiring into the imputations of misconduct or misbehaviour against Mukesh Meena and the undersigned considers that an inquiring authority should be appointed to inquire into the charges framed against Mr Meena,” read the order signed by Mr Kejriwal.

The order, issued on October 30, said retired IAS officer B.S. Banerjee will probe the charges against Mr Meena, who is a joint commissioner of the Delhi police. Earlier in October, Mr Kejriwal asked Mr Meena to explain the charges of negligence and intimidating his juniors in the anti-corruption branch and issued a memorandum to him.

Mr Meena then shot back, saying that he would not obey Mr Kejriwal since he was not the competent authority. Mr Meena also warned the chief minister of legal action if the memorandum against him was not withdrawn.

Mr Kejriwal and Mr Meena have been at odds ever since Mr Meena was appointed as the anti-corruption branch chief in place of S.S. Yadav, whom the Aam Aadmi Party government earlier appointed to the post. The Delhi government refused to recognise Mr Meena as the chief of anti-graft body and approached courts against the L-G’s decision to appoint him to the sensitive post.
