Kejriwal, Bassi confrontation set to intensify

AAP govt to move court against cop for ‘flouting flat-buying’ norms

AAP govt to move court against cop for ‘flouting flat-buying’ norms

The Delhi government’s confrontation with the police is likely to intensify as it has decided to move court seeking appropriate action against city police commissioner Bhim Sain Bassi after a probe by its vigilance department found him “guilty” of flouting norms in connection with buying a flat. The Delhi police commissioner had earlier vehemently denied any wrongdoing and hit out at the ruling AAP for levelling “baseless allegations.”

The vigilance department will file a petition in court along with its probe report seeking registration of an FIR against Mr Bassi under Section 200 of CrPC for allegedly illegally acquiring a flat in the Lucky Home Cooperative Society of Rohini, sources said. The Registrar of Cooperative Societies, from which deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia had sought details on the issue, has also ordered the “demolition of illegal construction in the flat of Mr Bassi’s brother Ravi Bassi in Rohini.”

“Vigilance department conducted an inquiry and found out that wrongdoings were committed. The department will now submit the probe report to the court. The probe found the police chief guilty. The government will seek appropriate action against the police commissioner,” the sources said.

They said the Registrar of Cooperative Societies had found illegal construction in the flat in Rohini which Mr Bassi had sold to his brother Ravi. After the report, the area SDM on Tuesday issued an order to demolish illegal construction in the flat, the sources said. They said that municipal corporation will be asked to raze the unauthorised constructions in the flat. “The government can move court directly under Section 200 of CrPC,” the Delhi government sources said. The police commissioner and the AAP government have been at loggerheads on a number of issues.

During the Winter Session of the Assembly, AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj had alleged that Mr Bassi got a flat in the Lucky Cooperative Housing Society by flouting rules and in collusion with officers of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies and the managing committee of the society. Mr Bassi, however, asserted that the property in question is “purely legitimate and was lawfully acquired.” He had claimed that the AAP government has indulged in a “vicious propaganda” against him.

Mr Bassi admitted enrol-ling himself as a member at the housing society in Rohini in 1989, following which he had purchased a 980 square feet flat there for around Rs 2.30 lakh.
