Kashmiri man held for raising slogans

A 25-year-old Kashmiri man, identified as Amir Amin, was detained on Sunday for allegedly supporting militants and raising anti-Army slogans in Dwarka.

A 25-year-old Kashmiri man, identified as Amir Amin, was detained on Sunday for allegedly supporting militants and raising anti-Army slogans in Dwarka.

A permanent resident of Kashmir’s Shopian district, Amin was carrying a banner with handwritten messages against the ongoing security operation in Kashmir. Amin lives in Gurgaon’s Sector 13 at present and had gone to Dwarka Sector 9 to meet someone.

“A PCR call was received from Sector 9 in Dwarka that a man was supporting militants. A person, Amir Amin of Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district, was found at the spot. He was taken to the police station and was questioned by us and other security agencies,” said deputy commissioner of police (southwest) Surender Kumar.

Sources said phonecall was made to the police by a local resident after he spotted the youth raising slogans over ongoing unrest in Kashmir. He was beaten up by locals and handed over to the police.

The officials of Delhi police’s special cell also questioned Amin. The sources said some documents and literature related to jihadi activity were recovered from Amin’s possession. The agencies are trying to ascertain whether he has been involved in any anti-India activities or was in touch with any terror group.

The agencies have approached his parents and local police in Kashmir’s Shopian district and his questioning continued till late evening.
