Demanding dropping of sedition charges against JNU students and implementation of the Rohith Act to end atrocities against Dalits in education institutes, the JNU Students’ Union has organised a march to Parliament on Wednesday.

JNUSU vice-president Shehla Rashid Shora said, “We are going to hold a solidarity march to Parliament tomorrow to protest the stifling of dissent in JNU, Hyderabad University and elsewhere through sedition charges.”

The protest march, which will be joined by academicians and students from various universities across Delhi, will begin from Mandi House at 2 pm on Wednesday. The students are also demanding resignation of HRD minister Smriti Irani, alleging that she misused powers and peddled lies regarding the JNU row and the controversial death of dalit scholar Rohith Vemula in the Hyderabad University.

“We want to take up our issues with the PMO, MHRD and the home minister. We will also be approaching the NHRC and the Minorities Commiss-ion to register our concer-ns over the functioning of the police and the continuing threats of physical violence against Kanhaiya, Umar and Anirban,” said Ms Shora.
