Intensifying their agitation over the suicide of Hyderabad Central University (HCU) student Rohith Vemula, JNUSU and various other student organisation like AISA, KYA held a demonstration outside the HRD ministry on Wednesday against the brutal police crackdown on students in HCU and demanded the removal of vice-chancellor Appa Rao Podile, who had gone on a two-month leave amid the storm following the suicide of Rohith.
The police barricaded the area to stop the students who tried to march towards the ministry.
Three major demands raised during the protest were the immediate removal of the vice-chancellor, immediate withdrawal of police intervention from the campus and dropping the false “attempt to murder” charges against the students of Hyderabad University.
JNUSU vice-president Shehla Rashid, who allegedly called Prime Minister Narendra Modi Hitler in her speech, said, “ The HRD ministry thinks universities like ours do not study. According to them only they are allowed to be a part of politics and not students like us. This is their real ideology.”
