JNU row: Umar, Anirban sent to 14-day judicial custody

Jawaharlal Nehru University students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, who are facing sedition charges, were on Tuesday remanded to 14-day judicial custody by a Delhi court.

Jawaharlal Nehru University students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, who are facing sedition charges, were on Tuesday remanded to 14-day judicial custody by a Delhi court. JNU Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar is already in judicial custody for sedition in connection with the same case.

All eyes on Wednesday will be on the Delhi high court, where Mr Kumar’s bail plea is likely to be decided. Mr Khalid and Mr Bhattacharya were produced before the court by the special cell of the Delhi police after the expiry of their police remand.

They were remanded to judicial custody after the police said the duo were not required for further interrogation.

The Delhi high court’s Justice Pratibha Rani had on Monday reserved the order for Wednesday after over three hours of hearing on Mr Kumar’s bail plea.
