Barely a week before his retirement, a professor of Jamia Milia Islamia was issued a showcause notice by the university on Friday for making derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a letter sent to the vice-chancellor last December.
Mohammad Sultan Bhatt, who was against inviting Mr Modi for the university’s annual convocation, had written a letter to the V-C communicating the decision of the Jamia Teachers’ Association (JTA) in this regard in December last year.
However, he received the notice three months after writing the letter and eight days before retirement. Prof. Bhatt retired on March 31.
Meanwhile, Prof. Bhatt on his part said that the notice has been deliberately sent prior to his retirement.
