The Indian Medical Association (IMA) will honour the “oldest practising and non-practising doctor” in the country. Dr J.S. Rastogi from Moradabad, aged 99, and Dr Prakash from Jor Bagh, aged 103 years, will be honoured at a function on Sunday.

The secretary-general, IMA, Dr K.K. Aggarwal, said, “It is indeed a historic moment for each one of us at IMA to announce two awards which will be given out during the instillation of Team IMA-CGP (College of General Practitioners) for the present year.”

The award for the oldest practising doctor in the country will be given to Dr Rastogi, who continues to see patients at the age of 99 years. The other award of oldest non-practising doctor of the country will be handed over to Dr Prakash, who at 103 years is the oldest non-practising doctor. “This is proof that doctors too can lead a long and healthy life if the right lifestyle is adopted,” added Dr Aggarwal.

Meanwhile, former MCD health committee chairman V.K. Monga has been elected the dean of IMA College of General Practitioners. Dr Monga said that the IMA will also launch several new schemes, including encouraging all members to carpool for official meetings and ceremonies to help reduce the increasing pollution in the city.
