Union home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi on Tuesday was put in the dock by members of Parliament who raked up the issue of the Delhi police raid on the Kerala House and verbal attacks by Delhi police chief B.S. Bassi on the Kejriwal government.
Appearing before the standing committee on home affairs, Mr Mehrishi was asked by Trinamul leader Derek O’Brien as to why Mr Bassi was making statements attacking Mr Kejriwal, the democratically-elected chief minister, sources said. The raking up of Mr Bassi’s adverse comments by the Trinamul MP is significant as West Bengal chief minister and Trinamul chief Mamata Banerjee will meet the Delhi chief minister on Wednesday.
Mr O’Brien asked him whether Mr Bassi will be issued a show-cause notice by the Union home ministry, which has direct jurisdiction over the Delhi police. Mr Mehrishi is learnt to have kept silent on the issue. The Trinamul MP also sought an update on the attack on a church in Delhi over a year back.
As the Trinamul MP questioned the Union home secretary, Rajya Sabha MP and CPI leader D. Raja demanded to know how the Delhi police had raided an office of a state government without its permission and more so whether the Delhi police will entertain calls from anyone claiming beef was being eaten within any premises.
