With five interchange stations at Kashmere Gate, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, Lajpat Nagar and Kalkaji Mandir on the upcoming Kashmere Gate to Escorts Mujesar corridor, the distance between Delhi and satellite town Faridabad will get shrinked significantly. On Wednesday, trial runs began on the 5.17- km-long ITO to Kashmere Gate Heritage Line section of the corridor, which is expected to be thrown open for the public in the by November after the safety inspection.
Once commissioned, the entire 9.37-km-long Central Secretariat to Kashmere Gate section will be operational and become a part of the 43.40-km long Escorts Mujesar-Kashmere Gate Violet Line corridor. The Escorts Mujesar (Faridabad) to ITO stretch is already operational.
DMRC chief Mangu Singh said the “most challenging” task was to carry out construction in narrow pockets of the walled city, and to overcome that DMRC had to go for “out-of-the-book solutions”. The line, which will have three stations, is expected to begin operations by November.
Mr Singh claimed that 95 per cent of the work relating to the construction of viaducts and tunnels on Phase III has been completed although issues remain in few patches like the one involving acquisition of land at Trilokpuri.
“Delays in obtaining clearance from ASI and National Monument Association delayed construction and engineering complications added to the eight-month-long delay in beginning the trial run,” DMRC chief spokesperson Anuj Dayal said.
