One of the two abductors of the SHO of Gurgaon’s Sector 29 police station on July 2, was arrested on Saturday late night after a shootout with the Gurgaon police at Sohna.

One of the two abductors of the SHO of Gurgaon’s Sector 29 police station on July 2, was arrested on Saturday late night after a shootout with the Gurgaon police at Sohna.

A country-made pistol, three live cartridges and one motorcycle were recovered from his possession, but the other abductor managed to flee. The accused suffered bullet injuries and was admitted to civil hospital. His condition is out of danger.

Acting on a tip-off, the abductors, riding on a motorcycle, was intercepted for checking at Nirankari Baba Gurbachan Singh Memorial College, old Alwar road, Sohna, around 11 pm. But, instead of halting, they opened fire, said a senior Gurgaon police official.

In retaliatory fire by the police, one of the robbers was shot in the right leg, said the official, adding the accused, identified as Khalid, suffered the injuries.

“He was injured in leg, but another kidnapper, who was accompanying him at the time of the encounter, managed to flee from the spot. We will produce him in the court and will demand his custody to interrogate him,” said the official.

SHO Surender Singh Phogat, who went missing for almost 12 hours on July 2, was abducted by four suspects he had picked up on the road. Phogat went missing at around 12:30 pm on July 2 when he was on his way to meet a senior official. Phogat had noticed four men standing by the wayside while on his way to office. Suspicious of them, he pulled over the car, a Swift Dzire owned by him, and began questioning the men. The accused overpowered him. Thereafter he was held captive for many hours and taken to a place near Kosi where he was dumped after snatching his mobiles and car. The SHO’s family claimed Phogat managed to speak with his nephew at around 11:30 pm that day.
