Labour minister Gopal Rai on Wednesday said the Delhi government has not diverted cess funds from the construction workers welfare fund as alleged in complaints received by the Central government.
Labour minister Gopal Rai on Wednesday said the Delhi government has not diverted cess funds from the construction workers welfare fund as alleged in complaints received by the Central government.
Mr Rai told the Union labour minister Bandaru Dattatreya that the allegations are “factually incorrect”. The ministers met on Wednesday.
“The Construction Workers Welfare Board has taken decision in its Board meeting for construction of hospitals, schools, Aaganwari, crèche and temporary accommodation for workers etc. for the dedicated use of construction workers so as to provide direct benefits to construction workers and mitigate the difficulties faced being by them,” a statement issued by the Delhi government said.
Mr Rai stated that the Aam Aadmi Party government has already launched 18 schemes for the welfare of construction workers. The government has approximately '1900 crore available in the construction workers welfare fund, according to him. “It is felt by Delhi Govt. that keeping the cess funds in bank will defeat the very purpose of collecting cess and accordingly it has been decided by the Construction Workers Welfare Board to utilise the cess funds for construction of schools, hospital, hospital insurance cover, etc,” the statement said.
