Former transport minister Gopal Rai on Tuesday voluntarily presented himself before ACB chief M.K. Meena in the backdrop of graft allegations against the AAP government’s ambitious app-based premium bus service scheme.
Mr Rai, who continues to a minister in the Kejriwal government, claimed the probe agency was “totally clueless” over substantiating corruption charges in the scheme. He alleged that the whole matter is politically motivated and the ACB has not even registered an FIR in the case.
However, Mr Meena said investigation into the matter shows that the scheme was launched in “connivance” with a particular company and the anti-corruption branch will take legal action against every concerned officer if they fail to provide all necessary documents in connection with the matter.
Mr Rai, accompanied by senior officials of the transport department, also met the lieutenant-governor and asked him for evidence which proves corruption in the bus scheme. “In view of continuous harassment of the transport department’s officers by the ACB in connection with the case, I voluntarily appeared before the agency. When I today visited the ACB office, they (investigators) were clueless to establish any type of corruption charges in the scheme. Mr Meena told me that the ACB has not registered an FIR in connection with scheme so far,” Mr Rai said.
The former transport minister said he was ready to provide any file pertaining to the scheme to the probe agency.
